Automated Waste Collection

Below you’ll find helpful information and a few suggestions concerning the automated trash collection service here in Jennings.

————–

You should place your Republic Services trash cart near the street and 3 feet away from ANYTHING, including other carts or cans.  Vehicles should not be parked on the street on collection day.  In addition, your cart has arrows on the lid; these arrows MUST point to the street.

Correct placement of trash cart.

All garbage needs to be INSIDE the trash cart with the lid completely closed.  Items placed on top or outside of your cart may cause all of your garbage to remain at the curb.  If you consistantly have more garbage than will fit in one 96-gallon cart, it is recommended that you request a second cart.  These can be obtained by calling the Water Revenue Office at 337-821-5502.  (a small monthly fee on your water bill will apply for each additional cart)

If you move to a different address, you must leave your trash cart at the old address, as the carts are assigned to the address and not the customer.

If your trash cart is stolen or is missing, you will need to get a police report from the Jennings Police Dept. and turn a copy in to City Hall so that we can have a new cart issued to you.

Bulk Trash Pickup Rules & Regulations

Bulk Trash items will be picked up once per month during the second full week of the month.

Bulk Trash is stoves, refrigerators (with all CFC and other refrigerants removed), water tanks, washing machines, furniture, large branches and other similar items.

The rear-loader truck picks up small bulky items that will not fit inside your trash cart and they pass the same day as your normal pickup day.  This can include items such as boxes, tricycles, yard waste, etc.

Yard Waste is grass, leaves, flowers, stalks, stems, tree trimmings, branches and tree trunks. For yard waste collection services of grass, pine needles, leaves, flowers, stalks, stems and small tree trimmings shall be put into a container, bag or box and the weight of each should not exceed 35 lbs. Larger tree trimmings shall be laid neatly in piles at curbside (preferably tied in bundles). The maximum weight of any item placed out for yard waste collection shall be fifty (50) pounds. Branches up to six (6) inches in diameter shall be cut in length not exceeding six (6) feet and shall be stacked at the curb (preferably tied in bundles). Tree trunks shall not exceed fifty (50) pounds for any one piece nor four (4) feet in length.

Contractors shall haul off their own debris, tree trimmings, grass clippings, carpet, etc.

If you have any questions, please call Republic Services at 337-806-2040 or the City of Jennings Water Revenue office at 337-821-5502.
